Welcome to the Internet Rug Camp
Thank you for visiting the home page of the Internet Rug Camp!
Is it easier for you to learn hooking concepts when you see them demonstrated?
Would you like your own personal teacher 24/7?
Do you have questions about rug hooking?
If the answer to any of those questions is Yes, then The Internet Rug Camp is for you. For pennies a day you can have access to:
Expanded blog coverage - All the information that Gene posts on his popular blog will be here, only expanded with additional comments and photos especially designed for camp members. Subscribers will also be able to participate with comments and questions in the ongoing discussion that goes with each day's post.
Instructional Video Library Open 24/7
Each month, 2-4 new instructional videos on rug hooking will be added to the site's growing library of lessons designed to help you master all the aspects needed to create beautiful hand hooked rugs. These videos will permanently remain on file so that you can access them any time you want.
Available now for your viewing pleasure:
- Drawing the Double Cross Pattern: This session covers the steps needed to draw the first free pattern available on this site.
- Transitional Dyeing: Join Gene in his dye kitchen as he creates great transitional pieces, without using any dye.
- Persian, Part 1: Picking Your Colors: Gene discusses his thought process for choosing colors for a new project.
- Alternate Loop/Bead Stitch: This two-color technique is a great way to add some pizazz to a hooked project.
- Corners and Colors: Double Cross Rug (This rug is all about corner technique and the choice of the right colors.)
- Marbleized Wool: Dyeing without dye!
- Whipping the Edge of a Rectangle Rug (One of the most frequent topics I am asked to address.)
- Persian, Part 2: Correcting a Pattern (Dealing with a pattern that slipped while being drawn.)
30 different instructional videos will be posted on this site during the next 12 months. Here are a few more that have already been filmed:
- Persian, Part 3: Hooking the Corrections (Since re-draws can get rather confusing, here are some suggestions for simplifying the process.)
- Finishing the Edge of a Round Rug (Get the bulk out of a finished round edge.)
- Dyeing a Traditional Six Value Swatch ( A simple way to do a traditional swatch.)
- Zipper Ditch for Very Wide Cuts (Let wide cuts work for you.)
- Transferring a Floral Design (Using a light box to simplify this process.)
Free Patterns: The IRgC will also have free pattern downloads every few months – 5 are scheduled for this year, the first one being Double Cross. Each pattern will be supported by blog and video coverage so you will have a variety of information available to you when you decide to make your own version.
Desktops & Screen Savers
Every month, just for fun, Gene shares some of his favorite photos. You are welcome to use them, as he does, as desktops, screen-savers and wallpapers for the computer.
There is a spot for you at The Internet Rug Camp.
